Genealogy Tip - "Going to Town"
If you are researching the records of a rural family you may have to check records in several local communities.
If everything else is equal, look at the terrain between their home and the towns. The town that was the easiest to get to by foot or wagon is probably the one they frequented.

When contacting churches, looking for the usual records of interest, don't forget to ask about Church Directories and Church Cookbooks. You may find pictures of family members or a great aunt's favorite cookie recipe.
